The SBI UPI transaction limit is ₹1 lakh per transaction and ₹1 lakh per day for person-to-person (P2P) and person-to-merchant (P2M) payments combined. SBI allows 20 P2P transactions in 24 hours and sets no count limit for merchant payments, as long as you stay within ₹1 lakh. After you set or reset your UPI PIN, a ₹5,000 cooling limit applies for a short period.
These limits apply to your SBI account in every UPI app: YONO SBI, BHIM SBI Pay, Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and others. Below are the official SBI figures from SBI’s YONO blog, worked examples, higher limits for verified merchants and what to do when a payment is declined. For other banks and apps, see our UPI guides hub.

SBI UPI transaction limit per day explained

The ₹1 lakh daily cap covers both money sent to people and normal payments to shops and websites. It runs on a rolling 24 hours, so a payment made at 11 AM frees up its share at 11 AM the next day.
Example 1: one ₹1 lakh pot for people and shops
You pay ₹70,000 to a jeweller’s normal QR at 11 AM. At 4 PM you try to send ₹40,000 to your brother. The second payment is declined, because only ₹30,000 is left in the window. You can send ₹30,000 now and the rest the next day after 11 AM, or send the full ₹40,000 at once by NEFT or IMPS.
Example 2: count limit on transfers to people
A small shop owner sends ₹1,000 each to 20 workers on Saturday evening. That uses all 20 P2P slots but only ₹20,000 of the value. The 21st worker cannot be paid by UPI from the same SBI account until the earliest transfer turns 24 hours old. Shop payments by the same owner can still go through, because SBI has no count limit for P2M, but they share the remaining ₹80,000.
For a full explanation of count rules across banks, read UPI transactions per day.
The SBI UPI cooling period

SBI applies a cooling period after you set or reset your UPI PIN:
| Stage | Android | iPhone (iOS) |
|---|---|---|
| First transaction | Up to ₹5,000 | Up to ₹5,000 |
| Cooling period | ₹5,000 in total for the first 24 hours | ₹5,000 per day for the first 5 days |
| After cooling | ₹1 lakh per transaction and per day | ₹1 lakh per transaction and per day |
The normal limit returns on its own. If you have a big payment coming up, such as rent or school fees, do not reset your PIN in the days just before it. If you use an iPhone, plan for the full 5 days.
SBI UPI limits for verified merchants

SBI’s YONO blog lists higher limits for payments to verified merchants in some categories:
| Category (verified merchants) | SBI limit |
|---|---|
| Insurance and capital markets | ₹2,00,000 |
| IPO (ASBA), RBI Retail Direct Scheme, tax payments | ₹5,00,000 |
| Hospitals and educational institutions | ₹5,00,000 |
| Inward and outward remittances via UPI (India–Singapore corridor) | Up to 1,000 SGD equivalent |
NPCI’s rules from 15 September 2025 allow up to ₹5 lakh per payment for insurance and capital markets too, but SBI’s page shows ₹2 lakh for these. So a ₹3 lakh mutual fund payment from an SBI account may fail even to a verified merchant, while a ₹3 lakh hospital bill to a verified hospital should be within SBI’s ₹5 lakh limit. Confirm with SBI before a large merchant payment. See the full NPCI category table in our maximum limit of UPI guide.
SBI UPI Lite limits
With UPI Lite, you can make small payments of up to ₹1,000 without a UPI PIN, from a Lite balance of up to ₹5,000. It suits daily spends like tea, vegetables or bus fares. Setup steps are in our UPI Lite guide.
Sending more than ₹1 lakh from SBI

- Log in to SBI internet banking or the YONO app.
- Add the receiver as a beneficiary if you have not already. New beneficiaries may have a waiting period or lower first-day limit; check the screen.
- Choose NEFT, IMPS or RTGS. RTGS is for ₹2 lakh and above; RBI sets no minimum or maximum for NEFT.
- Your per-day limits for these depend on your account and the beneficiary settings, so check them in internet banking before a big transfer.
