EPF withdrawal via UPI is not fully live yet. As of October 2026, EPFO is testing the facility with banks as part of its EPFO 3.0 upgrade, and reports say a rollout is likely by the end of 2026. Once launched, members should be able to see the eligible PF amount and move it to their bank account using their UPI PIN, without filing a regular online claim.
Until then, you withdraw PF the usual way: an online claim on the EPFO member portal or the UMANG app. This guide covers both the new system and the current process, with a readiness checklist, examples, common mistakes and safety tips.
EPF withdrawal via UPI: status at a glance
| Point | Status (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Is it live for all members? | No, in testing with banks |
| Expected launch | Reported as likely by end of 2026 |
| Earlier target | April 2026, later delayed |
| How much can be moved | Up to 75% of the balance, as reported |
| Minimum to keep | 25% of the balance must stay in the account, as reported |
| Authentication | Your UPI PIN |
Dates have shifted several times, from March 2026 to April and then June. Treat any date as tentative until EPFO officially announces the launch.
How EPF withdrawal through UPI is expected to work
Based on reports of the system being tested, the process should look like this:
- Your UPI account is linked to your UAN (Universal Account Number).
- You see the PF amount eligible for transfer to your seeded bank account.
- You choose the amount and confirm with your UPI PIN.
- The money moves to your bank account. From there, you can spend it with UPI or a debit card.

The final steps and app names will be confirmed only at launch. Do not trust any app or link that claims to offer PF withdrawal by UPI before EPFO announces it.
Example: how the 75% rule would work
If the reported rule holds and your PF balance is ₹4,00,000, up to ₹3,00,000 (75%) could be moved, while ₹1,00,000 (25%) would stay in the account. For a balance of ₹80,000, the figures would be ₹60,000 and ₹20,000. The exact base for the calculation and any per-transaction caps will be confirmed only in EPFO’s final rules.
Get ready now: checklist
- Activate your UAN on the EPFO member portal.
- Link Aadhaar to your UAN, and make sure name and date of birth match.
- Seed your bank account with the correct IFSC in your KYC.
- Keep the mobile number linked to your UAN and bank the same, if possible.
- Make sure your UPI app is linked to that same bank account.

If you do not yet have UPI on that bank account, our guide to the Aadhaar UPI bank list explains how to set up UPI with Aadhaar on supported banks.
How to withdraw EPF online today
- Log in to the EPFO member portal with your UAN and password, or use the UMANG app.
- Check that KYC (Aadhaar, PAN, bank) is verified.
- Go to the online claim section.
- Verify the last four digits of your bank account.
- Choose the claim type (partial advance, final settlement, or pension withdrawal) and the reason.
- Submit with the Aadhaar OTP.

Many advance claims are now settled automatically without manual checks. As reported in October 2026, claims up to ₹5 lakh are settled automatically within three days. EPFO also upgraded its web portal and the UMANG app at the end of June 2026. Settlement time and limits may vary; check the status in the portal.
Current method vs UPI method
| Point | Online claim (today) | UPI withdrawal (expected) |
|---|---|---|
| Where | EPFO portal or UMANG | UPI-based flow linked to UAN |
| Verification | Aadhaar OTP | UPI PIN |
| Speed | Auto-settled claims up to ₹5 lakh within three days, as reported; others take longer | Expected to be much faster |
| Reason needed | Yes, for advances | Not yet confirmed |
Who will benefit most
- Members who need money quickly for medical or family emergencies.
- People who find the online claim form confusing.
- Members whose KYC is complete and whose UPI is linked to the same bank account seeded with EPFO.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Mismatched details. Name or date of birth not matching across Aadhaar, UAN and bank is the most common reason claims fail.
- Wrong bank account seeded. Your UPI app must be linked to the same account.
- Trusting “instant PF” apps. Wait for EPFO’s official launch.
- Withdrawing without need. PF is retirement money and earns interest over the long term.
- Forgetting your UPI PIN. Reset it in advance; see forgot UPI PIN.
Safety tips

- EPFO never asks for your UPI PIN, OTP or bank password over calls or messages.
- Ignore links promising “instant PF via UPI” before the official launch.
- Use only the official EPFO portal and UMANG app.
- Remember that PF is retirement money. Withdraw only when needed.
What to do if something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Claim rejected for KYC mismatch | Correct the details on the EPFO portal, then file again |
| Bank account not verified | Update bank KYC on the portal and get employer approval if asked |
| Claim pending for long | Check status on the portal and raise a grievance on EPFO’s grievance portal |
| Received a call asking for PIN or OTP | Hang up; report it; see our UPI fraud complaint guide |
