So what changed after 10 weeks of foreign selling? The answer lies in global rates, earnings and sector rotation.

What Drove the Weekly FII DII Report Numbers

The Fed Hold and Softer US Yields

The US Federal Reserve held rates at its meeting on 28 October. By Friday, 30 October, the US 10-year Treasury yield had slipped to 4.90% and the dollar index had eased to 101.70, as per CNBC-TV18. VK Vijayakumar of Geojit Investments named the Fed hold, large-cap valuations and steady domestic growth as possible reasons for the shift, as reported by Business Standard on 1 November.

IT and Pharma Led, Smaller Stocks Lagged

On 30 October, the Nifty IT index rose 2.33% after Cognizant’s results, and Nifty Pharma gained 1.55%. The Nifty Midcap 100 fell 0.93% and the Smallcap 100 fell 1.85% the same day, as per Business Standard and 5paisa. For the week, the Sensex gained 1,335.70 points to 74,459.53.

Crude Oil and the Rupee Stayed a Drag

Brent crude rose to $117.84 a barrel on 30 October after Yemen’s Houthis stepped up attacks on Saudi Arabia, CNBC-TV18 reported. The rupee opened at 95.22 per dollar that day, against a previous close of 95.26. High oil raises India’s import bill and weighs on the rupee.

How to Read the Numbers: A Worked Example

  1. Add the two flows. FII net of +₹6,305 crore plus DII net of +₹3,109 crore gives combined institutional buying of ₹9,414 crore.
  2. Find who led. FIIs supplied about 67% of that combined figure (6,305 ÷ 9,414). In most October weeks, DIIs supplied all of it while FIIs sold.
  3. Check the biggest day against price. On 27 October, FIIs bought ₹4,240 crore, yet the Nifty slipped 0.02%. Expiry-day flows often reflect closing derivative trades, so one day can mislead.

Our FII and DII record days page shows how this week compares with the largest flows on record. The cash numbers tell only half the story, though. The futures data shows how FIIs are positioned.

FII Index Futures Position After the Weekly FII DII Report Week

On 30 October, FIIs held a net short of about 2.41 lakh contracts in index futures, as per Quantsapp participant data. That was down from about 2.80 lakh contracts on 23 October. In index options, FIIs were net long about 2.75 lakh contracts. Clients, meaning retail and HNI traders, held a net long of about 1.87 lakh contracts in index futures.

A smaller short means FIIs covered some bets against the index while buying in cash, which points the same way. But a 2.41 lakh contract short is still large. Vatsal Bhuva of LKP Securities placed support at 22,800 and resistance at 23,250 on the Nifty, as reported by Business Standard on 30 October. October 2026 in Context

One good week does not undo a heavy month. Adding up NSE provisional data for October 2026, FIIs sold a net ₹45,160 crore in the cash market while DIIs bought ₹62,218 crore. On a depository basis, FPIs pulled ₹34,843 crore out of Indian equities in October, taking 2026 outflows to ₹2.95 lakh crore, as per CDSL data reported by PTI on 1 November.

The figures differ because depository data also counts primary market deals such as IPOs. Vijayakumar noted that FPIs kept selling large-cap financials while adding pharma, healthcare and select digital platform stocks. For month-by-month totals, see our FII DII monthly data page, or compare with last week’s report, when FIIs sold ₹2,698 crore.

What Happened Next and Key Dates to Watch

The buying carried into Monday, 2 November. FIIs bought a provisional ₹3,115 crore and DIIs sold ₹392 crore, extending the FII buying streak to two sessions. The Nifty 50 closed at 23,440.80, up 1.68%. Here are the dates on our FII DII calendar for the days ahead:

  • Tuesday, 3 November: Nifty weekly expiry. Expiry days often bring large changes in FII index positions.
  • Sunday, 8 November: Diwali Muhurat trading, with timings to be notified by NSE.
  • Monday, 9 November: Nifty weekly expiry, moved from 10 November.
  • Tuesday, 10 November: Market holiday for Diwali Balipratipada. No FII or DII data that day.
  • Wednesday, 11 November: MSCI November 2026 index review announcement.

Watch Brent crude too. Pabitro Mukherjee of Bajaj Broking said high crude prices and global event risks could limit the momentum, as per the PTI report. For all our daily numbers and free tools, visit our FII and DII data home page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the weekly FII DII report show for the week ending 30 October 2026?

FIIs bought a net ₹6,305 crore and DIIs bought a net ₹3,109 crore in the cash market from 26 to 30 October 2026, based on NSE provisional data. The Nifty 50 rose 2.00% to 23,053.10.

Are FIIs buying or selling Indian stocks now?

FIIs were net buyers in the week ending 30 October 2026, their first buying week after 10 straight weeks of net selling. They bought a further ₹3,115 crore on 2 November, as per provisional data. October as a whole was still a month of heavy selling.

How much did FPIs sell in October 2026?

FPIs withdrew ₹34,843 crore from Indian equities in October 2026, as per CDSL depository data reported on 1 November. NSE provisional data shows FII net selling of ₹45,160 crore in the cash market for the month.

Why did Nifty rise this week?

The Nifty 50 rose 2.00% as FIIs turned net buyers after the US Fed held rates and US yields eased. IT and pharma stocks led, helped by results from Cognizant, Trent and IndiGo, while high crude oil kept smaller stocks under pressure.

Are FIIs still short in Nifty futures?

Yes. On 30 October 2026, FIIs held a net short of about 2.41 lakh contracts in index futures, down from about 2.80 lakh contracts on 23 October. The position is smaller but still bearish on balance.

The Bottom Line

The week ending 30 October 2026 broke a long pattern. FIIs bought ₹6,305 crore, DIIs added ₹3,109 crore, and the Nifty 50 gained 2.00%. A Fed hold, softer US yields and strong IT and pharma results helped, and FIIs also trimmed their futures short.

The bull case is that foreign selling has paused and FIIs are covering shorts. The bear case is that crude near $118, a weak rupee and a still-large futures short could cut the rally short. Your next step: check whether FII buying holds through the 3 November expiry before reading this as a lasting turn.
