Our pre market report today shows that the morning cues point to a positive start for the Nifty 50 on Thursday, 29 October 2026, with GIFT Nifty trading about 90 points above Wednesday’s close after the US Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged. Softer crude and small FII buying help, but a sharp fall in South Korea’s Kospi and a US 10-year yield near 5% may limit the gains.

Key Takeaways

  • GIFT Nifty traded near 22,790 between 7:01 and 7:35 AM IST, about 90 points above the Nifty’s last close of 22,698.85.
  • The Fed held its policy rate at 3.75% to 4% on Wednesday, as markets expected.
  • FIIs bought a net Rs 872 crore in cash on 28 October and DIIs bought Rs 643 crore, but FIIs also added net shorts in index futures.
  • Brent crude eased about 0.9% to near $114.4 a barrel, while Kospi fell 2% to 3% in morning trade after Samsung’s results.
  • The Bank of Japan’s policy decision is due today; there is no Indian index expiry today.

FII DII Data and Market Setup

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought a net Rs 872 crore of Indian shares in the cash market on Wednesday, 28 October 2026. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were also buyers, with net purchases of Rs 643 crore. This was the second straight day of FII buying after Rs 4,240 crore on 27 October.

Our FII Market Setup for 28 October reads Buying with Hedges. This means FIIs bought shares in cash but reduced their bullish exposure in index futures, where their net position fell by 13,985 contracts. In simple terms, they bought stocks while also protecting themselves against a fall. That is a weaker signal than cash buying backed by fresh long futures. You can follow the derivatives side on our FII DII F&O data page.

The bigger trend is still one of FII selling. Over the last 30 sessions (15 September to 28 October), FIIs sold a net Rs 92,406 crore and were sellers on 23 of the 30 days. DIIs bought Rs 1,12,155 crore in the same period, a DII absorption of 121%, meaning domestic funds bought more than foreign funds sold. Daily figures are in our FII DII data today summary, and the full picture is on our FII and DII data home page.

Global Cues

Wall Street ended Wednesday slightly higher. The S&P 500 rose 0.28% to 7,743.98, the Nasdaq gained 0.27% and the Dow added 0.19%. The Fed kept rates on hold, and Chair Kevin Warsh said further data would guide the decision at the December meeting. The US 10-year Treasury yield stayed near 5%, which keeps borrowing costs high worldwide.

Asia is mixed this morning. Kospi opened higher but then fell between 2% and 3% after Samsung Electronics reported third-quarter profit below estimates. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was slightly higher in early trade, and Japan’s Nikkei opened 0.23% up ahead of the Bank of Japan decision. Brent crude eased to about $114.4 a barrel, still close to recent highs, and the rupee was steady near 95.2 per dollar. The Bottom Line

The cues lean positive, with GIFT Nifty higher, crude a little softer and FIIs buying for a second day. Against that, FIIs hedged with futures shorts, Kospi is falling and US yields remain near 5%, so the early gains may face selling if global markets weaken during the day.
