FII DII Data and Market Setup
Provisional NSE figures for 5 November 2026 show FIIs bought Rs 14,974.68 crore net in the cash market, their fifth straight day of buying and the largest daily figure in our records, which go back to May 2026. Over those five sessions (30 October to 5 November), FII net purchases add up to about Rs 35,830 crore. DIIs sold a net Rs 10,444.54 crore, their fifth straight day of net selling, as domestic funds booked profit into the rally. Daily rows are on our FII DII data today page.
The latest stored FII Market Setup, for 4 November, reads Strong Buying. This label means FIIs were buyers in cash and also added net long positions in index futures on the same day (a net change of +16,778 contracts). When both point the same way, foreign investors are backing the move with fresh positions.
The wider window is still mixed. Across the 30 sessions from 22 September to 4 November, FIIs sold a net Rs 64,299 crore and DIIs bought Rs 91,169 crore, a DII absorption of 142%. FIIs sold on 20 of those 30 days, so the recent buying is a sharp turn rather than a settled trend. Global Cues
Wall Street gave back its post-election gains on Thursday. Chip and AI stocks led the fall after investors weighed whether the Democratic wins in the US midterms could bring tighter rules on AI and data centre projects. Nvidia fell about 9%, and the S&P 500 had its worst day since April 2025. The 10-year Treasury yield slipped to about 4.84%.
Asia followed lower this morning. South Korea’s Kospi fell sharply enough to trigger a circuit breaker and Japan’s Nikkei lost around 6% or more. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng opened about 392 points lower. Brent crude climbed back toward $99 after reports of fresh tanker attacks in West Asia, which adds pressure on India’s import bill. The rupee ended flat at 94.46 per dollar on Thursday.

- Expiry and holidays: there is no Nifty expiry today. The next weekly Nifty expiry is on Monday, 9 November, as markets are shut on Tuesday, 10 November for Diwali Balipratipada. Muhurat Trading runs on Sunday, 8 November, from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM. See the FII DII calendar for details.
The Bottom Line
The cues indicate a softer open after Nifty’s 2.4% jump on Thursday, mainly because of the US tech rout, the slide across Asia and oil near $99. The fall in GIFT Nifty is modest next to the moves in Seoul and Tokyo, and five days of heavy FII buying give some support, so the size of any dip is uncertain.
